This series of 19 unique photo works for the passages under the railway in Albatrosstraat and Bleekstraat were commissioned by ProRail and the municipality of Utrecht by Frans Hofmeester (1959). What is special about this project is that local residents have been actively involved in its realization from the start.

Frans Hofmeester's photographic works have permanently transformed both passages into a cheerful, colorful atmosphere.

The architectural and urban environment of this station calls for images in which nature plays a clear role.

Man and nature are connected in the photographic works. Flowers shine or grow right through the hands. They give light or take over the shape of the fingers. There is a constant play between color, shape and light. Young and old, immigrant, native, they are all represented in the photographic works.

Under the supervision of Nienke van de Lune of Movares, a council group consisting of residents and a steering group, in which ProRail, the municipality and the architect Paul van der Ree of Utrecht Vaartsche Rijn station were represented, assessed the works during the design process.
