In the 4th century, Martin was bishop of the city of Tours in France. He left a deep impression because of his care of the poor. From the very start, people followed his example. They made their way through Europe, as well in Utrecht. Ever since the 7th century, Martin of Tours is the patron saint of the city and church.
This dome, or Saint Martin’s Church, is now a major stop on one of the many pelgrimage routes through Europe to Tours.
The Centre Culturel Européen Saint Martin de Tours connects a network of Saint Martin’s cities in Europe.
