Welcome

Dogs like to run free. This is no problem at all on the public roads around the Wielrevelt (Joostenlaan, Eikslaan and Haarpad). Unfortunately, it is not possible everywhere. Between the fields and meadows, stray dogs, often unseen and unintentionally, cause disruption to nature. Dogs are welcome in the field, but on a leash!

Running dogs and nature ‘bite' each other in our densely populated country. Nature reserves are relatively small and offer few places where animals can live undisturbed. Loose dogs that are only curious and ‘do nothing' also cause disturbance. As soon as a dog gets too close, a bird, rodent or deer will startle and flee. Deer can run fast, but barbed wire and fences corner them. It happens that they literally ‘walk themselves death'.

Cows

Dog faeces can cause serious illness in livestock. Parasites are spread through dog faeces that lead to stillborn calves in cattle. That is why you should never let your dog do his business in fields and meadows. Not even if no cattle are walking at that time.

People

Runners and walkers like to spend their free time in nature in a relaxed way. Many are not bothered by dogs, but some are afraid of dogs. They dislike dogs jumping up on them.

Natuurmonumenten wants to prevent the above situations and therefore asks you to keep your dog on a leash.

Natural Monuments. If you like the Netherlands.
